We recognize and appreciate the dedication of our bus drivers Mr Gutierrez, Mr Medrano, Mr Morales, Ms Moreno, Mr Turpen and our assistants Ms Aragonez, Ms Lona, Ms Ruiz, and Ms Sullivan.
School bus drivers must- Pass rigorous tests before receiving a license to transport students
- Have a current Commercial Driver's License with a School Bus Endorsement, required by law
- Receive specialized classroom and behind-the-wheel training in driving a school bus, carrying out a school bus stop, student loading/unloading procedures, student evacuation, student behavior and security management, and emergency medical procedures
- Be subjected to frequent driver records checks to assure that their license is not suspended
- Participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident testing
- Pass a periodic medical exam, no less than every two years, to ensure they are medially qualified to transport students
- Have a pre-employment criminal background check
- Pass a test that certifies their ability to physically evacuate students from the bus
School Bus Safety Tips for
Students:
- Be
alert to traffic. Check both ways for cars before stepping off the bus.
- Make
eye contact with the bus driver, and wait for the bus driver's signal
before crossing the street.
- Walk
in front of the bus; never walk behind the bus to cross the street.
- While
waiting for the bus, stay in a safe place away from the street.
- Before
leaving the sidewalk, look for the flashing red lights.
- Never go near or under the bus to retrieve something you've
dropped.

The Lady Cats sponsored "Dig Pink" Thursday, October 18. The volleyball match annually has helped raise money, raise awareness of breast cancer and help those fighting it. This year, the team raised $2176 that is donated to Leslie Trujillo, a breast cancer patient from Roswell. This is about $500 more than last year's fundraiser. The team thanks everyone who came out and made a difference in Leslie Trujillo's life. A full article can be found at Chaves County Sports Report. Photo courtesy CCSR Karen Boehler. |

About 40 bikers pedaled to Bottomless State Park and back (51 miles) on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 collecting donations for cystic fibrosis research. The annual event generated over $500 for research and care for those afflicted with the syndrome. We had a greatly-appreciated cook-out upon return and seriously thank the Hagerman department of public safety, school administrators, bikers, supporters and National Honor Society for allowing participation in this event |

The State of New Mexico has joined 45 other states and the District of Columbia in adopting the Common Core State Standards as we prepare our students for college or careers after graduation. The Common Core State Standards will replace our current New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks over the next two years beginning with grades K-3 during the 2012-2013 school year, and continuing with grades 4-12 during 2013-2014. Emphasis will be on students acquiring a deeper understanding of critical concepts and applying that knowledge in both Mathematics and English. Please take time and visit http://www.newmexicocommoncore.org to learn more on this important State Initiative.

The Quality of Education survey is now open. Please consider taking it to give us feedback about how our schools are meeting the needs of the students. The survey is open for teachers, staff, parents and other interested parties.
After clicking on the link, you will be asked for a login name. You can use anything for this name. It doesn't have to be an identifiable name if you do not want. Select Hagerman and your role. Then select the school for which you would like to take the survey.
